چکیده

The prominent role of reasoning skills in predicting academic outcomes is clearly evident over the years that its inculcation various face-to-face learning contexts has become progressively dominant, including collaborative (CL) settings. pandemic crisis, however, challenged traditional approaches to shift an online mode overnight resulting dramatic changes delivery whereby teaching undertaken remotely and on digital platforms. Though impact CL-based promoting have been well-documented years, a systematic analysis learners’ behavioural patterns argumentation virtual environment yet be concretely established. current study therefore sought investigate development reasoned among pre- university students with mixed language abilities, using open-ending short stories via computer-supported (CSCL) environment. Adopting case research design by applying mixed-methods approach through both descriptive sequential analyses, 12 pre-university from public served as participants this study. results show ability strong predictive factor there established tendency produce constructive arguments defensive or challenging viewpoints alternative ideas. This calls for future studies further factors ascertain language-rich discussions facilitating higher order thinking learners.

Exploring Students' Knowledge Construction Strategies in Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning Discussions Using Sequential Analysis

Online collaborative learning allows discussion to occur at greater depth where knowledge can be constructed remotely. However students were found to construct knowledge at low-level where they discussed by sharing and comparing opinions; those are inadequate for new knowledge creation. As such, this research attempted to investigate the students’ behaviour and their strategies to construct kno...

Using Tools in Computer Supported Collaborative Argumentation

The relationship between collaboration processes, task strategies and the use of the tools and resources that the computer environment offers, may be crucial for the effects of computer supported collaborative learning. We are interested to find out how, within a computer environment, students collaborate, how they use the different tools we offer and how this influences the quality of the fina...

Exploring foundations for computer-supported collaborative learning

In 1996 Koschmann (1996) suggested computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL) as an emerging paradigm of educational technology. After six years, how has the field developed? What does research say about CSCL to date? What is the state of the art? The aim of the present paper is to explore the foundations for CSCL, and in doing so, to contribute to the theoretical as well as empirical und...

Computer supported argumentation and collaborative decision making: the HERMES system

Collaborative Decision Making problems can be addressed through argumentative discourse and collaboration among the users involved. Consensus is achieved through the process of collaboratively considering alternative understandings of the problem, competing interests, priorities and constraints. The application of formal modeling and analysis tools to solve the related processes is impossible b...

The effects of two computer - supported collaborative learning ( CSCL ) scripts on university students ’ critical thinking Computer - supported collaborative learning scripts on university

The present study focuses on the use of two different types of scripts as possible ways to structure university students’ discourse in asynchronous discussion groups and consequently promote their learning. More specifically, the aim of the study is to determine how requiring students to label their contributions by means of De Bono’s Thinking Hats (script 1) and Weinberger’s script for the con...
